Oleksadra Horscroft Artist Vibrant expressionism and poetic brushstrokes

I was born in 1967 in the Soviet Union — a world of rigid norms where art could not become my destiny. My childhood, rich in imagination, was a quiet protest against the greyness of everyday life. A ballerina in spirit, a poet at heart, and an instinctive creator by nature, I nevertheless followed an unexpected path: I studied engineering at Riga Technical University and built a career in construction.

The collapse of the Soviet system opened new doors, and I founded my own advertising agency. Yet it was a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease that revealed my true vocation. On medical advice, I took up brushes to train fine motor skills, and I never put them down again. Painting became both instinct and healing, a revelation I had long been waiting for.

Since 2020 I have lived in Houssay, France, where I paint every day, inspired by the beauty of the surrounding landscape. I work in acrylics, in a style that shifts between expressionism and impressionism, marked by a unique gesture I playfully call “Parkinsonism.” My paintings are an ode to life and nature — an invitation to slow down and rediscover the hidden magnificence around us.

To date, I have taken part in 22 exhibitions in France, Ukraine, Italy and England, including 4 solo shows. I am currently a member of the Paris Artists Association Horizonworldart.com as well as the Amboise Valley Artists Association, where I enjoy being part of a vibrant creative community. Through my art I seek to convey a simple yet profound message: to live in harmony with oneself, with others, and with nature. My work does not strive for technical perfection — it strives for authenticity. And in this sincerity, light is born.

One of my deepest hopes is to inspire others to believe that it is never too late to follow your dreams. Art came into my life unexpectedly, during a time of great change and challenge, but it brought healing, purpose, and joy. I believe creativity can bloom at any age and under any circumstances — all it takes is the courage to begin.
